GOTLAND GALORE - THE SOUTH
South of Gotland (Sudret) – coastlines, rauks, and big skies
The far south of Gotland—Sudret—is where open skies meet raw limestone coast. It’s also home to the island’s most famous sea stack, Hoburgsgubben, a weather-carved rauk that has watched the Baltic for centuries.
Fröjel shoreline & the Karlsö horizon
We roll south with a first stop in Fröjel, stretching our legs along a quiet seaside path. Out on the horizon, the Karlsö islands keep us company—blue silhouettes that seem to glide as we walk. It’s the perfect place to set the pace for the day: salt air, flat light, and the sound of water on stone.
Lunch in Sudret—Grey Goose option
Around midday we pause for lunch. A favourite is Grå Gåsen (The Grey Goose), well known in Sweden from a popular TV show. The setting is relaxed and photogenic, and the kitchen showcases island flavours. If you prefer something quieter or quicker, we’ve got lovely alternatives nearby—just tell us your style and we’ll match it.
Storsudret coastal drive—one for the memory book
After lunch, our vehicle traces Storsudret’s coastal road—low fields, wind-gnarled junipers, and those endless sea views that make time slow down. It’s one of the island’s most beautiful stretches of road, with stops for photos and a chance to listen to the Baltic rolling in.
Hoburgsgubben—iconic rauk, sweeping views
At the southern tip we meet Hoburgsgubben up close. The stone forms here are sculptural and strange, shaped by wind, water, and time. On clear days the water feels impossibly bright; on moody days, the drama is even better. Keep an eye on the sky—eagles often circle overhead, riding the thermals with effortless grace.
