GOTLAND GALORE - FÅRÖ
Take an adventure beyond the guidebooks. Meet Gutes (Gotlanders), bysar (a legendary gnome-like creature that haunts the woods), voles (small rodents) or ordinary Gotlanders in their natural habitat. Visit sites, explore the wilderness, history and culture and, quite simply, experience the authentic Gotland.
Fårö – a magical island
Northeast of Gotland is Gotland’s smaller neighbour, the island named Fårö accessible only by an 8-minute ferry ride from Fårösund. Superb ultra-fine, sandy beaches, unique stark natural environs and magnificent limestone sea-stacks, make Fårö one of Gotland’s most popular and renowned destinations.
We visit the old fishermen’s huts by ’Helgumannen’ and Gotlands mightiest sea-stack field ‘Langhammars’. In between our stops, we take in Fårö’s outstanding natural settings an experience best appreciated by simply travelling around the island and taking in the magnificent sea views, freely roaming sheep and pastures with shaggy horses around Gåsemora.
After some nature sightseeing we stop for lunch, before getting ready to visit the Bergman Center. At the Bergman Center we will get a private tour of the museum and learn a lot about Ingmar Bergmans life and movies. After the museum visit we stop by the church where Ingmar Bergman has his final resting place to pay our respects.
If we have time we will make a stop by the amazing church where Ingmar Bergman has his final resting place.
On the way back to the ferry we will travel by back roads in order to see some of the famous settings from Mr. Bergmans films. The “Fårö Hollywood” if you like.
